Mercury is the closest plannet to the sun due to it proximity, it is not always seen except during twilight.
For every two orbits of the sun, mecury completes three rotations about it axis and up until 1965 it was though that it was same site of the mercury that constantly face the sun. Thirteen time a century , Mercury can be observe from earth passing accross the face of the sun in an event call transit.
